Mrs. Ashley McNeal To All Instructors
A lifelong reader, I pursued my passion with a degree in English Literature and Art History and graduated Summa Cum from Metro State College of Denver with my second child just weeks from delivery! I have been a home schooler since the very beginning (2010) and now have 12 years of experience. My goal has always been a well-rounded and engaging education with heavy influences from Charlotte Mason and a classical philosophy.
Several of my own children would be labeled dyslexic and it has been my personal mission to learn everything I can and adapt my methods to best meet their needs. I would say that dyslexia was probably the most impactful event in upending some of my preconceived notions of what a quality education would look like. I have attended certification classes through the Nebraska Dyslexia Association to be trained in Orton Gillingham methods which are geared towards reading acquisition but translate throughout any level of schooling and into adulthood.
I have been married for 19 years this summer to my husband Dave and have five children ages 6-15, all of them home educated. I was born and raised in Southwest Kansas and have moved to several different states before finally landing in Lincoln where we decided not to move anymore. We live outside of Hickman on a modest acreage where we raise free range chickens and children, grow a substantial garden, and keep four horses that will never be ridden as much as they should.
